All ferns on this site are growing in the garden of the photographer. Lady fern, Maidenhair fern, Ostrich fern, Lady in Red fern, Remote Wood fern, Christmas fern and Male Linear fern are photographed in ground so they may continue to grown year after year. As you will see by the titles, many of these fern "talk to me".

Lady in Red

The Lady in Red fern has a red stem that becomes darker and more beautiful as the fern matures.

Ostrich Fern

As you can see, the frond of this Ostrich fern was talking to me!

Victoriae Fern

The Victoriae fern is very detailed and intricate. The fronds criss-cross each other and the older fronds have have a crested end. A lovely plant and not particulary difficult to grow.

Lady Fern

The Lady fern is much like an Ostrich fern, but it does not spread and the fronds are lacier and more delicate. These ladies are "Free at Last" after a long winter.

Maidenhair fern

The Maidenhair fern is native to Wisconsin. The fronds are distinctly different from other ferns. They like growing in rocks best of all.

Male Linear fern

The Male Linear fern's name is misleading. It is the most delicate of the 18 variety of fern that I have. This fern is very late emerging causing me to think most springs that it "didn't make it" through our winter.

Remote Wood fern

The Remote Wood fern is more hardy in appearance. Wisconsin winters don't seem to affect the Remote Wood fern.
